Christmas has come and gone. A new year too. 2012. I had made a promise to myself that 2011 would be a year of focus. Little did I know that I would really need to focus, on myself. Sunday was the start of our holiday baking and candy making. Oatmeal Scotchies are the favorite of this house but every year I always try to make a new kind of cookie. This year I made two new ones, Cinnamon M&M Chip (based on the Tollhouse recipe but using Cinnamon M&Ms) and Chocolate Mint Chip.  Many pounds of butter, cups of sugar, and dashes of cinnamon later, we had on our hands 39 1/2

So we have had an abundance of beautiful carrots from our CSA over the past couple of weeks and now that I am mastering the storage of all the goodies, I have enough carrots to make a big old pot of soup! Being pregnant seemed to last forever and having F around seems to be the opposite. Time is just flying by and it is really sad to see him growing so fast. We have already put away the newborn clothes and now we are in the 3 month clothes category. Well, after a grueling eviction notice was posted, baby Morris arrived his own way on his own schedule. Franklin Oliver Friday, September 30, 2011 8 lbs, 6 oz (yeah, bigger because of the 42 weeks) 21" long Hair like you wouldn't believe! We couldn't be happier/more exhausted/surprised/luckier!

So we have been in the house now for a little over a week. It is still all about organizing, unpacking, and various other 'projects.' The nursery is mostly ready for the baby but apparently he is not ready to join us yet. My official due date was September 18 but that has past and we are still waiting. Eviction will occur starting Wednesday evening if he doesn't choose to join us before then.

Ok, looks like I am behind in posting. At the time of my last posting I was experiencing a cold, or what I thought was a cold, that turned into a sickness spanning weeks and then a surprise of a positive pregnancy test. After almost 3 full days of not leaving the house (due to the worst cold of 2010), I finally needed to get out. This was my first time snowshoeing and I cannot wait to go again. Day 2 of adjustment is going ok. We ended up getting up at 5:30 this morning. Not normal for me but I took advantage of the early hours and made apple cheddar scones fresh for breakfast. This is my 4th of July fun. What better way to celebrate than a cake?! The cake is caramel and the frosting is too. I sprayed a high percentage alcohol on a piece of crumpled parchment and then I cooked a mixture of sugar, water, and corn syrup to 300 degrees and poured it on the parchment. The alcohol evaporated and created this bubbled look.

The third section with Chef Hall was all about individual plating. We still had to make items. We had a list of items, garnishes, and sauces. So my venture into real lace knitting (Ishbel in Yubina cashmere silk) has been slow. So slow, I had to go back and start again because I messed up the center stitch. Don't ask.After frogging it and getting about 1/3 of the way to where I had been, I just decided to cast on a quick knit. It is summer but I decided to knit up a cowl in my new favorite yarn... Things I learned this weekend... because of this trip.I don't need to carry 2 jackets in my backpack when the weather is 100+ degrees.Yarn does not mix well with sap. Nothing really does.I cannot handle heat well. Thought it would be fun to post pictures of Ro's development. Ro was adopted from the Oregon Human Society in Portland on December 6, 2008. I found a picture of her online and just had to meet her. Alan and I were going up to see Zoo Lights so it worked out pretty well, only a couple hiccups.When we got there we did not see her on the floor. Well, we are back. I have been knitting and driving and visiting. I finished the first of my Mrs. Beeton's wristlets and I have already started on the second one. I also have a good 4 inches of my Jane sweater done. I will get some pictures soon.I am moved into Alan's place but we still have a lot of unpacking and organizing to do. We gave Ro her summer hair cut and man, she looks ridiculous. :)
